Wellness Pilates
Pilates is a method of body conditioning using the "Powerhouse" or core muscles to initiate all movement. Pilates teaches upward and outward movement from a tight, strong center. The powerhouse muscle group consists of all abdominal muscles including the transverse abdominus, hips, inner and outer thighs, and lower back. In addition to the powerhouse muscle group, the Pilates method uses your mind, lungs, spine and neuromuscular system. Joseph Pilates originally called his method "The Art of Contrology" because it focuses on using the mind to execute controlled body movements. There is no need for many repetitions or the use of heavy weights because Pilates increases strength and flexibility simultaneously while creating long, lean and well toned muscles. The result is an attractive and balanced physique. The Benefits of Pilates Pilates has been effective in realigning and balancing the body, enhancing concentration, improving posture, relieving incontinence, alleviating allergy and asthma symptoms, correcting spinal abnormalities, enhancing neuromuscular facilitation, coordination and improving performance in sports and other physical activities. It is recommended for golfers and those who pursue other sports that stress the spine. The Difference between Mat, Tower, Reformer, Mat/Reformer Combination Classes and Private Sessions Mat Class is the floor work portion of Pilates. You need only your body and mat (provided by the studio). No apparatus is used. All clients new to the method are required to attend three introductory private sessions prior to participating in Mat classes. Tower Class has clients using the Tower unit apparatus, which includes leg springs, arm springs, roll back bar and push through bar. Mat exercises are also incorporated. All clients are required to schedule three introductory private sessions to learn the exercises using the powerhouse and how to safely operate the Tower unit prior to participating in Tower classes. Mat experience is preferred. Reformer Class has clients using the universal reformer. All clients are required to schedule three introductory private sessions to learn exercises done on the reformer. Focus will be on proper form and safety. Upon completion, clients may then enroll in Reformer classes. Mat experience is preferred.
Mat/Reformer Class has clients get the benefits of both the mat and the apparatus in one small-group class. Up to 3 people wotk out in two 25 minute segments. Get the postural support and resistance of the reformer plus the total body strength, flexibility and control of the mat work. All clients new to the method are required to attend three introductory private sessions prior to participating in Mat/Reformer classes. Private Sessions have the client using a combination of the reformer and tower apparatuses as well as the mat. The goals will be unique for each client as no two bodies are the same. Private sessions are the most rehabilitative modality in Pilates as the focus is on individual needs. No experience is necessary and all ages and body conditions are welcome.
Remember..."In 10 sessions you'll feel better. In 20 sessions you'll look better. In 30 sessions, you'll have a new body". Joseph Pilates |
