FAQ

Q: What is the benefit of working with a personal trainer rather than joining a gym?

A. Benefits of working out with a Professional Fitness Trainer are quite extensive. The average
person who joins a gym does not have the tools, motivation, and technique needed to meet their
fitness goals. Our nationally certified instructors have the knowledge of how to design an
effective and safe exercise program specifically tailored to meet your goals. A fitness assessment
is conducted first to determine your capabilities and/or limitations. The results of your fitness assessment will determine which exercises are most effective for you!. Additionally, having a
personal fitness coach will be an additional way to keep you highly motivated during the training
program. So many people who join gyms (though it seems less expensive in the short run) simply lose their incentive and fail to come to the gym regularly after a few months, while your credit card
still gets charged each month! Working with one of our fitness professionals will ensure that you
stay on track and achieve your goals! No fees are deducted monthly and you pay for only the services you use.  Our center also offers you the option of using our cardio equipment as you like!

Q: Can I just come in at anytime and work with someone? Why do I need an appointment?

A. Since The Wellness Center of Northwest Jersey is not a gym, but a professionally staffed
personal training center, you need one-on-one appointments. We will find an appropriate time slot
that will fit with your schedule. Our clients find that having an appointment keeps them motivated and on track.  Results are consistent to meeting their goals!

Q: How long will it be before I see results?

 A. Significant and very pleasing results will begin to be noticed usually within a month,
sometimes sooner depending on how frequently you train with us. Most clients commit to 2 or 3 sessions per week and are thrilled with their progress. Results vary by individual, but most see positive changes in the following areas; inches lost, stronger bodies, weight loss, improved stamina and endurance, enhanced body awareness and emotional well-being.

Q: What is the difference between personal training and Pilates?

A. The difference between personal training and Pilates is in the type of body conditioning and the
varying emphasis on the "core". Personal training stresses overall core strengthening and abdominal
work. The Pilates method is controlled movements done with precision. Pilates also focuses more
intensively on proper breathing, flexibility and form. In personal training you will spend some
time with core and abdominal exercises, and then working lower and upper body with more
"traditional" exercises such as chest presses, dumbbell curls, lat pulldowns, leg presses, lunges,
and squats, to name a few. Various pieces of equipment are used as well as functional training
methods using your own body's resistance. The end of the session is spent stretching to improve
flexibility. Both of these programs are very effective in propelling you to meet your fitness goals
and objectives. We start by requiring a fitness assessment, and after we have reviewed the fitness
assessment results we will recommend either Pilates or personal training, or a combination of the
two.  In the event you tried personal training for a while and want to add Pilates, we have an introductory plan. Our Pilates programs include your choice of Mat, Reformer or Tower apparatus in a private or semi-private tranquil setting. Personal training may be one-on-one or as duets (2 clients and 1 trainer).

Q: I have problems with my back; can I still consider personal training?

A. After reviewing your fitness assessment results and complete health history, we'll be able to
determine if it is safe for you to commence a program. In the majority of cases, clients with some
degree of lower back pain can start a training program with us and also feel better after
several workouts as we work on strengthening your core, abdominal muscles and lower back through specifically targeted and very safe exercises.  It has been determined that degenerative lower back conditions may result from a loss in abdominal/core muscle mass and strength due to lack of exercise and not necessarily the result of aging.

Q.  My schedule is very hectic and I don't know how I can fit time in for training. Are your hours flexible enough?

A. Our hours are very flexible, starting in the early morning until late in the evening Monday through Friday with Saturday from 7:00AM-1:00PM.  Scheduling time for yourself to exercise is not only a smart way to stay fit but as our clients tell us..."It's the most productive time in my week!"  Call us to set up an "Informational"  appointment on how you can benefit from our varied and effective services!
